The Mission
Learning Lions is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to enable young adults in impoverished rural areas of Eastern Africa to work, and to live a life full of opportunity while remaining in their home area. That sentence is from the Learning Lions Rule Book, and it has not changed. Everything on the campus hangs from it: the training, the agency, the campus and the community work.
The Motto
Learn, earn and innovate. The campus is meant to be a place where a young person learns a digital skill, earns from it, and builds something new, without leaving home. Startup Lions says the same from the enterprise side: fighting poverty with digital opportunity.
What Each Lions Is For
- Startup Lions holds the campus and runs it, and started it all in 2015: the place where the rest happens, and the enterprises around it.
- Learning Lions trains: Mobile LEAP on the phone, BootCamp on campus, the Advanced Track into work, and the Career Map that carries a Lion through all three.
- Digital Lions employs: the world's first fair trade digital agency, where trained Lions work for clients around the world.
- Lions Strength reaches the community around the campus: agriculture, medical and early childhood programmes, the girls' high school next door, and NAWI against early marriage.
The Vision
The vision is being revamped by the Lions' own leadership, and this page will carry it when they have settled it. Until then the portal does not put words in its place. The December 2025 structure says who approves it: the Strategy and Governance Board approves the strategy, the vision, the mission and the Theory of Change.
The Theory of Change
The Theory of Change is the frame the whole organisation measures itself against. The Impact and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Strategy keeps it as the foundation of impact measurement, with a formal review at least once a year and a quarterly strategic impact review. The document itself is not on the portal; it is one of the papers below.
The Documents Behind This Page
These are the current papers, as they stand on the Learning Lions share. They are not on the web; ask the SAs or the directors for the current copy.
