The School
Loropio Girls Secondary School, called Wakanda Girls on campus and in the project reports, is a public secondary school beside the campus, near Loropio in the Lodwar area of Turkana County. It is its own body, run by the state. It is a place of rescue for girls taken out of early marriage: many arrive from situations where school was out of reach, and every girl enrolled studies free of charge through sponsorship. The school gives counselling and continuous emotional support alongside the lessons. The campus's solar mini-grid and its boreholes, tanks and pipelines also supply the school.
What the Lions Do There
- The school project. Stipends for the students and the construction projects that give the school its buildings. In the organisation this is the Loropio Girls Secondary School project, LG-D, under Lions Strength and the Community Programs Board; the project is not the school itself. Behind it stands NAWI, the film and the project to end early child marriage in Africa; the fundraising runs as a Learning Lions project on GlobalGiving, with a report every few months.
- TechDada. The women's track of Learning Lions goes to the school: women who came through the programme, and Learning Lions volunteers, mentor the students in digital skills and are the role models who walked the same road. TechDada on Darasa Hub says how the track works.
- STEM and digital learning are part of what the project aims at for the school, with safeguarding and welfare; the school keeps its own safeguarding policy, separate from the campus's. Many of the girls now aim at university and at work as teachers, designers, health workers and engineers.
Where It Sits
The school project belongs to Lions Strength and answers to the Community Programs Board, which also oversees the community programmes: agriculture, medical and early childhood. The Structure shows the boards; The Campus Functions describes the Community Programs Department.
Written on 25 October 2026 from the December 2025 organisational structure, the campus pages and the GlobalGiving project reports of August and December 2025. The structure places the project under Lions Strength; GlobalGiving lists it under Learning Lions gUG, the German charity that receives the donations. Student numbers and the school's registered name are not on this page yet, and the project team has not read it.
